There are all kinds of coffee shops in Taichung, and according to my records, I’ve visited around 180 of them. Each one has given me a unique experience and insight. Every owner has their own fascinating life story and philosophy, which deeply attracts me.

For example, I really love visiting “CansCOFFEE,” a coffee shop near Dakeng Lover’s Bridge. Even though it’s quite far from my home, I always look for an opportunity to go back and visit again.

The owner is a very friendly man who, along with his wife, adopted a dog named “Huajuan.” They take great care of the dog, and Huajuan is very loyal, always keeping an eye on the shop. Every time I visit, I can’t wait to greet the dog — and, of course, say hi to the owner too (laughs).

The owner transitioned into the coffee business after taking a year off from his previous career. With unwavering determination and several years of hard work, he gradually mastered the knowledge and skills of coffee making. His coffee shop slowly began to thrive. Eventually, he moved from Taipei to Taichung to start a new chapter in his life.

The coffee shop is nestled within a neighborhood, making it a bit tricky to find on the first visit. However, its large windows reveal an industrial-style interior, and you’ll spot the big dog waiting by the entrance. The layout on the ground floor is simple and cozy, featuring mainly high stools, along with some long wooden benches for seating. My favorite spot is the small round table for three, where there are power outlets, perfect for leisurely enjoying coffee with a tablet.

This is my favorite coffee shop in Beitun District, Taichung. I highly recommend it to friends visiting Taichung.
