During a recent stroll near China Medical University, I stumbled upon a newly opened cafe. It’s currently in its trial phase and offering discounts.

As the name suggests, Cafe Reading is filled with books that line the shelves, showcasing the owner’s excellent taste in literature.

When I sat down and looked through the menu, I found something truly unique — coffee beans from Northern Thailand, a first for me in Taichung. It was also my first time trying this coffee in my life!

This brand, DOI CHAANG, has gained recognition over the past few years. It’s the result of a local village chief’s effort to lead his community in cultivating these beans over several years, achieving success and even earning accolades in European and American competitions. Now, in Thailand, its price is on par with Starbucks.

The cafe’s owner personally selects and roasts the green beans. They thoughtfully offer both hot and cold cups, enhancing the experience. The coffee itself strikes a perfect balance between freshness and richness — definitely worth a try.

The Taiwanese distributor is DOI CHAANG Co., located in Taipei, and currently, this cafe in Taichung is the only place offering these beans. Interested customers can also purchase the beans here, with grinding services available.

Another highlight of the cafe is the artwork created by the owner’s former students, adding a warm, handmade touch to the space. Their business cards are displayed below:

The owner, who loves to travel, visits Thailand once or twice a year. You can find various Thai brands and products in the cafe, which reignited my own desire to travel!
